Development History
History of Cardiac Net Development
researchBackground of
- 01At a certain point, for patients who have repeated exacerbations of heart failure after unsuccessful drug therapy, heart transplantation is the only treatment option left.
- 02However, only a limited number of patients can actually undergo heart transplantation, and in many cases an assisted artificial heart is used during the waiting period, but it is associated with complications such as blood clots and infection.
- 03It is desirable to develop alternative/combination therapies other than drugs that are effective in reducing cardiac dilatation and the progression of heart failure, and that can be widely applied.
- 04The development of medical devices for alternative and combination therapies has been conducted in the U.S. and Europe to date, but none have been put into practical use.
-
05The iCorNet Institute has focused on cardiac remodeling as the root cause of heart failure exacerbations, and has been researching and developing therapeutic tools that effectively suppress remodeling itself.
Although it is known from previous studies that the method of wrapping the heart with a net has a certain effect, it has also been found that the method of simply compressing the ventricular area with equal force impairs the diastolic function of the right ventricle and does not improve heart failure.
Tailor-made method heart assist net
solves these problems.

Cardiac Assist NetOverview and Features
- 013D heart modeling from patient heart images
- 02Creation of computerized knitting machine patterns from 3D heart models
-
03Design that uses simulation technology to predict cardiac function and energy efficiency when a cardiac assist net is worn, and optimizes the net shape and physical properties.
→Corresponds to diurnal variation in circulating blood volume
→Able to determine patient suitability and predict postoperative cardiac function -
04 A computer-controlled, seamless knitting machine knits 3D shaped nets without sewing.
→No intraoperative adjustments are required by weaving the cardiac assist net based on the patient's cardiac imaging data in advance.
→Minimally invasive (shorter surgery time, small incision approach) -
05Avoids right ventricular dilatation defects
→Sufficient compression setting for left ventricle
→Certain prevention of cardiac remodeling
