株式会社iCorNet(アイコアネット)研究所は、名古屋大学医学部付属病院特任教授である秋田利明が長年取り組んできた、特発性拡張型心筋症(以下、拡張型心筋症)の進行を緩和する形状矯正ネットの研究・開発を行っています。
拡張型心筋症とは、心臓の循環機能が低下し、それを補うために左心室が拡張してしまう病気で、難病指定がされています。拡張し続けることで心臓に負担がかかる、という悪循環を改善する形状矯正ネットが開発されていましたが、その当時は実用化には至りませんでした。

The only treatment is to alleviate the pain with medication and wait for the turn for a heart transplant. However, onset of dilated cardiomyopathy is more common in people in their 50s, making the opportunity for heart transplantation less likely.
そこで、軽～中程度の症状の方に対し、形状矯正ネットの活用を提案したいと思います。拡張を続ける心臓に対し、柔軟性と強度を両立したネットを装着することで、「ポンプ機能を妨げずに拡張のスピードを緩められるのではないか」「少しでも寿命を延ばすことに繋がるのではないか」と考えています。
Rather than giving up on the disease because it is difficult to cure completely, we will delay the progression of the disease by treating it early. By doing so, we hope to increase the number of healthy days in the lives of our patients.
そんな思いから、形状矯正ネットの研究・開発を続けています。
